In 1995 a group of Eight Chief Executives of companies located in GIDC Electronics Estate in Gandhinagar formed a group called Action Group Electronics (AGE). This group's main concern was why Gujarat has been lagging behind in the field of Electronics and what steps are needed to be taken to catch up. What they took up as their first task was convincing the State Government that this sunrise industry needs special attention. They started actively interacting with various departments of Government with the result the Government of Gujarat started recognizing them as the spokesperson for the industry and as a consultant on all policy matters regarding growth, sustenance and well being of the industry.
On 14th December, '96 GEIA (Gujarat Electronics Industries Association) was formed with initial membership of around 40 members. In 1997 GEIA was rechristened as GESIA (Gujarat Electronics & Software Industries Association) to widen scope to include software industries. GESIA is a not-for-profit, industry led and industry-managed association.
After a decade, GESIA has become the only nodal representative association of ICT Industry in Gujarat having 115+ members from various parts of Gujarat. GESIA works in partnership with the Government of Gujarat for the promotion of Software, BPO / KPO, Telecom / ISP and Electronics industry in the State of Gujarat.
As a State level body, it provides a recognized platform for discussions & solutions of common issues as well as for networking amongst its members, professionals and Government officials. Over the years, GESIA has formed various partnerships with National Level Industry Associations such as MAIT, NASSCOM, etc. to work with them as their partner in Gujarat.
During these ten years, GESIA has achieved many milestones, including, establishment of EQDC (Electronics & Quality Development Centre) and STTL (Software Testing Training Laboratory), under STQC Directorate, Ministry of Information Technology - New Delhi, partnerships with various National Level Industry associations, working with the Government of Gujarat for State level IT policies, seminars and programs based on relevant industry topics, etc.
We have recently started a new year of GESIA and a new committee has been selected to spearhead GESIA's efforts. As part of our efforts to increase the activities and visibility of GESIA in this New Year, we are also inviting a select few Industry Experts and Government officials as Co-opted members on the Board of Directors of GESIA. I am confident that with the wealth of experience and knowledge of all the Executive Committee members as well as Co-opted members, we will be able to revitalise and grow GESIA, to make it a Vibrant ICT Industry Association of Gujarat.
Join Now! and be a part of vibrant Gujarat Electronics & ICT Community.
